Working with a mental health therapist can help you overcome your unique challenges and meet your goals. If you’re interested in therapy in Wisconsin, consider online treatment. Barriers to care, like a lack of available providers or transportation difficulties, can make finding in-person treatment challenging. An online platform like BetterHelp can make therapy more flexible and convenient.
With BetterHelp, you can create a therapeutic relationship with a marriage and family therapist, licensed clinical social worker, or other mental health care professional from the comfort of your home at a time that works for you. While BetterHelp does not currently offer group therapy or treatments aimed at children and adolescents, like play therapy, the providers on the platform have extensive experience in clinical psychology and use many approaches to treatment.
Whether you need support with navigating the symptoms of mood disorders or substance use disorders or want to learn healthy coping strategies to manage everyday stress, therapy can help. If you’re looking for an online therapist, WI has many options available. The following Wisconsin therapists are licensed to provide teletherapy across the state and can help you take steps toward a more fulfilling life.

Leora Mirkin
Hello, and welcome! My name is Leora and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Wisconsin. I am passionate about helping people meet their goals and live happier, more fulfilled lives. I believe we all deserve to be who we truly are, and sometimes we need help to harness the bravery to live authentically. I specialize in working with members of the LGBTQIA+ and poly communities. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community myself, I understand that having an identity that differs from the societal norm can make seeking treatment feel especially daunting. My clients enjoy a truly non-judgmental space to cultivate the strength to become a prouder version of their authentic selves. Many of my clients describe sessions with me as relaxed and not overly clinical, while still being extremely effective. The issues I am most experienced in treating include anxiety, depression, OCD, intrusive thoughts, gender dysphoria, low self-esteem, body image issues, trauma, PTSD, and relationship boundary issues. I primarily use well-researched Cognitive Behavioral and Mindfulness therapies. I believe that being open about our mental health and seeking help when we need it is one of the most noble things a person can do. Taking care of your mental health doesn't just benefit you, it benefits everyone who knows and cares about you as well! Congratulations on your bravery in taking the first step. I know how important it is that you can count on regular responses from your counselor. I respond to messages at least once per day, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. I am currently offering messaging and Live Chat. If you would prefer video or phone, please select a different therapist. Thank you!

Hello and welcome! Something in your life brought you here in your search for help. I want you to know that you’ve come to a good place. I know how it takes wisdom and courage to seek out counseling support. I want to help you explore what is possible for you. Each of us can tap into our resilience and creativity even during the most stressful of times. I know too that sometimes we just need someone to talk to, who can listen without judgement. I am here for that. Update on 9/1/2021. Hello. I am updating my profile and mentions of what I consider my skill set. A growing opinion in clinical psychology is that no particular intervention is better than any other, and that the most important predictor of therapeutic success is the quality of the therapeutic relationship. I agree with that predictor. I have found that the best combo within therapy is relational, narrative and somatic. Relational in that the basis of a successful therapeutic experience is dependent on a healthy, skillful and genuine relationship between the client and the therapist. A good match results in good therapy. The therapist must be rooted in principles, boundaries and have a relatable skill set. Compassion and a genuine interest in the client must be the primary motive for the therapist. And the client must feel a genuine connection with the therapist. Narrative in that through the client sharing of their story and experiences and practicing inquiry and attention they can heal and transform painful circumstances and negative habitual patterns. Narrative includes the stories and assumptions we tell ourselves, so those are also part of the inquiry. Somatic means the conversation and work is embodied. That the context always returns to and is understood through one’s physical-emotional experiences. CBT can be a branch of all these, especially when it comes to inquiry practices. Again, all this relies on a genuine and authentic relationship between the client and therapist. A necessary vulnerability and receptivity to oneself and the other. I have been engaging with people as a therapist for 40 years. And I am still as enthused and dedicated to this relationship. I continue to learn through my clients, as well as through attending various trainings and teachings. I am deeply grateful to work with you and believe that the therapeutic relationship can be a life-long benefit. (I always claim that my therapist saved my life. In truth, our relationship gave me the means to save myself). I have recently taken more training in somatic experiencing, awareness and breath practices that help with personal insight and well-being. I look forward to exploring these with you. However, you lead the sessions not me; our conversation and explorations are determined by you and what you are wanting to experience. Here is a little about me and how I would assist you: I have a Masters in Social Work and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with over 3 decades of working as a therapist both face-to-face and online. My therapeutic style involves helping you to gain personal insight, simple strategies, and tools that you can use immediately to make positive choices and movement in your life. I consider you the captain of the ship, where I am the navigator, so, – you tell me where you want to go and I come up with several ways for you to consider, to get where there. You will always direct the session; I am here to help you discover the best internal and outward route to take to get to where you want. I have also authored several books on living a healthy and fulfilling life, healing from trauma, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to well-being, where I introduce simple tools to living a fulfilling life. Much of my work is about living life from the inside out – and how our emotions, beliefs, past traumas and attitude influence our outward and present day experience. I also use an educational approach with references to other resources that may help you, such as books, movies, on-line resources. We don’t just sit and talk. I love to provide you with simple, usable tools wherever possible that help you between sessions. We can practice these together and then you can see how they may benefit you in your daily life. I rely on these same practices to help me live a fulfilling and healthy life too. I too have relied on therapy, books and mentors to get me through challenging times. Most importantly, we are going to make sure we are making progress on your therapeutic intentions that you have for yourself. In that way, we are in this together. You will experience a true connection to me as your therapist. I am here to guide you, encourage you, possibly even challenge you if I feel you are unknowingly allowing obstacles to stand in your way. It takes insight to realize that one needs to make changes in their life, and it takes courage to reach out to get help in doing so. I have thirty five years of experience serving people with a variety of issues. I work comfortably with individuals, couples, and families of any age and ethnicity. I have advanced training experiences in Family-Systems Therapy, and Motivational Interview. When I am given the honor of serving someone, I will offer an approach that feels most comfortable, and is the most effective for that person. Your experience, history, and current issues should guide the work we do together. I can use a quick 'solutions' focus. However the depth, complexity, and confusion of your experience will guide the style and pace of our work. I am a 72 year old Christian man with the experiences of marriage, divorce, a blended and inter-racial family, non-binary family members, vocational issues, addiction recovery, and ADHD. I can counsel from a Christian perspective, if you prefer. You will be my partner in the formation and execution of your treatment plan. I ensure that you know the purpose, process, and desired outcome of each element of our work together. My effort is directed by your thoughts, feelings, and expressions. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I am a clinical psychologist with 30+ years experience providing mental health services to the people of Wisconsin. In this time I have worked in large medical centers, psychiatric hospitals, community mental health clinics, and private practice. My familiarity with virtual (online) service began in the early 2000s and has evolved along with the technology over the past two decades. In my experience, the quality of the therapeutic connection with clients has been determined by our mutual collaboration, not the modality of our interaction (i.e., virtual versus in-person). When working with me, you can be assured of my undivided attention and complete engagement in helping you find a better way to approach the psychological challenges you are facing. I have connected with literally thousands of people across the age spectrum, from adolescents to adults to the elderly. My expertise covers an extensive array of problem areas including depression/exhaustion, anxiety/worry, ADHD/autism, self-esteem, life-changes, work/career issues, family relationships, and much more. My clinical approach is customized to best address your unique needs, and draws on the techniques of diverse theoretical backgrounds ranging from cognitive-behavioral to interpersonal/humanistic. My style of interaction is inclusive, non-judgemental and conversational; punctuated with frequent illustrative metaphors and humorous observations. I look forward to meeting you and assisting you in your journey toward greater happiness and peace of mind.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Some of the most commonly asked questions about therapy can be found in the section below.
How much does a therapist cost?
Mental health professionals can differ in price. Forbes found that the average cost of in-person therapy in the US is around $100 to $200 per hour. Pricing can also vary based on your location.
BetterHelp offers payment plans of $60 to $90 per session, charged monthly in a lump sum. You can also take advantage of this pricing on one of BetterHelp's sister platforms, like ReGain for couples or TeenCounseling for teens aged 13 to 19.
Many therapists may be upfront about their pricing and whether or not they take health insurance from the beginning. Additionally, some in your area may offer a sliding scale plan to allow those with lower incomes to pay less for therapy. However, services online can often save individuals a few hundred dollars per month.
When should I get a therapist in Wisconsin?
Mental health services and mental health providers may help you navigate various concerns. You do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy; You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general advice. A counselor may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Mental health issues don't always present as a crisis. Many professionals provide talk therapy and support for life transitions, skills learning, relationship problems, or life coaching. Online therapy sessions can allow clients seeking therapy to experience professional help through video, phone, or live chat sessions without commuting to an office.
Does insurance cover the cost of therapy?
Different counseling services can vary in cost. Therapists must apply to accept insurance through insurance companies, which may take time and money, so not every therapist offers services through insurance. If you cannot find a therapist that accepts your plan, BetterHelp may be cheaper than visiting an in-person therapist.
Is online therapy the safe option?
Online therapy through BetterHelp and its sister platforms is safe. Therapists are licensed, experienced, and vetted before being contracted with the platform. If you experience any concerns with your therapist, you change your counselor through the platform or app at any time.
